A fire erupted and then was extinguished at Timberline Lodge , in Government Camp, on Thursday night.

No injuries were reported. The lodge and the ski area are closed while damage is assessed.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday, reports started pouring in that the historic lodge’s attic was on fire, Clackamas Fire District reported in a press release. The fire was discovered and called in by lodge employees.

Fire crews from Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, Gresham Fire and Estacada Fire responded to the fire. Crews performed a search and found that all occupants had evacuated safely.

The fire, confined to the roof and part of the attic, was declared under control at 11:12 p.m., Clackamas Fire District shared via Facebook.

The U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fire’s cause.

Damage appeared “somewhat minimal,” according to a post added to the lodge’s Facebook page.

“Timberline employees, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas County and Gresham first responders did an amazing job,” the lodge’s post stated. “The process, communication and containment saved the Historic Timberline Lodge from what could have been a much worse outcome.”

Timberline Lodge was constructed in 1937, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and then designated a National Historic Landmark by the Department of the Interior in 1977, according to the property’s website.

The structure’s exterior appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film “The Shining,” which was based on a 1977 Stephen King novel of the same name.
