Burning rubber: Brandon’s Joey Scarborough racks up wins at local racetracks
BRANDON—Joey Scarborough was driving racecars years before he even had a license to drive himself to school. At 14, he used a booster to give him the extra height he needed in the seat, but he was racing and gaining the experience—“seat time,” he calls it—that has allowed him to rack up wins at all the local tracks. Now 27, he’s had a great start to his 2024 season: a win at Devil’s Bowl in West Haven, a win at Airborne Park in Plattsburgh, and two wins at Malta in Ballston Spa. And we’ve barely even cracked July.
Montgomery residents hang banner for hometown hero and Olympian Elle St. Pierre
MONTGOMERY, Vt. — The love for Vermont native and Olympian Elle St. Pierre just keeps pouring in after her stellar performance at the recent Olympic Track & Field Trials. St. Pierre's performance in Eugene, Oregon was historic, and ended with St. Pierre taking first place in the women's 5,000 meter with a record time in the trials, along with a sub-four-minute time in the 1,500 meters.
2nd annual masonic Car Show set for July 13
The Masonic Seneca Lodge #40 is hosting its second annual Masonic Car Show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. The event will take place at Bombardier Municipal Park in Milton, located at 34 Park Place. Registration will be open that day from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with an entry fee of $20 per car.
Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers thanks supporters
LUDLOW, Vt. – On Friday, June 21, the Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers Snowmobile Club held a fundraiser golf tournament dedicated to the Ellison family. We are grateful for the Ellison family, who has given over 50 years of volunteerism, through multiple generations, to our club. Pat and Jim were part of our founding members, helping to bring snowmobiling to Ludlow as we know it today. Two of their sons, Randy and Bernie, are still active members, doing everything from grooming, to trails, to fundraising, and more.

Festival on the Green is coming up
Middlebury’s Festival on the Green begins this coming Sunday, July 7. The perennial weeklong event, run entirely by volunteers, this year will bring 14 different performing groups to the tent on the town green, offering up a wide variety of musical genres and styles, as well of something for the kids at the noontime Brown Bag lunch performances.
Fourth of July celebrations, gratitudeand other July tidbits
July is a picnic and a red canoe and a sunburned neck and a softball game and ice tinkling in a tall glass. July is also the 4th of July. Among the red, white and blue, the parades, the picnics and the pool parties is the patriotism that might show up as a few tears when we listen to the patriotic music. Brandon’s Independence Day Parade to Feature Vermont’s 40th Army Band
Saturday, July 6 at 10 a.m. – BRANDON – Celebrate Independence Day in Brandon with free events all day on Saturday, July 6. There will be a parade, contests, children’s activities, beer garden, auctions, street dance, fireworks and much more. One of the parade highlights this year will be the 40th Army Band from the Vermont National Guard. About 20 members of the band will be attending and proudly marching along the parade route. The 40th Army Band was originally started in 1907.

Summer Smash Demolition Derby is back a the Rutland Fairgrounds
Thursday, July 4—RUTLAND—There will be a live demo derby at The Vermont State Fairgrounds, 175 So. Main St., Rutland, followed by Fireworks to 9:45 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 + for grandstand general amission plus tax. Trackside general admission tickets are $25 + tax. A boxes are $140 + tax, with the B boxes going for $120 + tax. Age 5 and under are free.
