    The runoff election for the March primaries ended this week with the Young County Precinct 3 Republican candidate spot in the November general election going to Alan Craig in a close race.

    Early voting was held from Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24. Election day voting was held Tuesday, May 28 with a total of 1,103 voters turning out, or 9.1% of total registered county voters.
    Official election results were released Thursday, May 30 by the Young County Elections Administrator.

    During the March primaries the Precinct 3 candidates were Scott (Scooter) Philipp, Craig and Dickie “Coach” Scott. During that election Philipp received 383 votes (42.75%), Craig received 357 votes (39.84%) and Scott received 156 votes (17.41%).

    The runoff election was a much closer race with Craig receiving 236 votes, or 50.32%, while Philipp received 233 votes, or 49.68%.

    Along with the Precinct 3 race on the Republican ballot were candidates Brent Hagenbuch and Jace Yarbrough vying for State Senator for District 30. Overall in the March primary election, Hagenbuch received 35,262 votes (36.38%) and Yarbrough received 32,899 votes (33.94%) and beat opponents Carrie de Moor and Cody Clark.

    During the runoff election, Hagenbuch came out on top with 18,741 votes, or 56.66%, over Yarbrough who received 14,338, or 43.34%.

    The Democratic ballot also had runoff candidates Dale Frey and Michael Braxton for State Senator for District 30. Overall in the March primary election, Braxton received 7,833 votes (37.72%) and Frey received 6,856 (33.02%) to beat out opponent Matthew McGhee.

    During the runoff election, Frey came out on top with 1,727 votes, or 57.15%, over Braxton who received 1,295, or 42.85%.

    Following the runoff election, the winners in each party’s primary elections will be the party’s nominee in the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5. Early voting in the November election will be Monday, Oct. 21, through Friday, Nov. 1.

    The last day to register to vote in the November election is Monday, Oct. 7. The last day to receive a ballot by mail will be Tuesday, Nov. 5.

    Canvassing of the election results will take place Wednesday, June 5 for the Republican results and Thursday, June 6 for the Democratic results.
