Cody Scott Gilmore, who led police on a high-speed pursuit in and outside of Graham in November 2023, took a plea for six years deferred adjudication last week on charges from the incident.

Gilmore, 27, of Graham, was sentenced to six years deferred adjudication for the third-degree felony charges of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1/1-B, greater than or equal to 1 gram but less than 4 grams.

A Young County grand jury indicted Gilmore on both charges Thursday, Jan. 25. Gilmore was placed under arrest Nov. 14, 2023, booked into the Young County Jail on $17,500 total bond on the two charges and released the same day.

Additionally, Gilmore received a fine of $1,500 and will have to follow conditions of community supervision. Within his conditions is a requirement of 160 hours of community service assigned by the Community Supervisions Department.
A GPD officer made a traffic stop early Nov. 14, 2023 at the corner of Fourth and Oak Streets in Graham. As the officer approached the vehicle, Gilmore fled from the officer in his vehicle.

The officer advised dispatch he was in pursuit of the vehicle. Gilmore approached the intersection of Fifth and Oak Streets and signaled to turn to Hwy. 67 S, but was met with another GPD officer which had emergency lights activated.

Gilmore turned back to Elm Street and ran the red light at the intersection to Fifth and Elm Streets. He turned back toward Hwy. 67 S from Elm Street and proceeded south at a high rate of speed.

At the Fourth Street and Hwy. 67 S split, Gilmore traveled south in the main lane which has a ‘wrong way’ sign posted and is intended for traffic coming from the city traveling north.

Gilmore slowed as he reached the Eliasville cut off at FM 701 on Hwy. 67 S, took a U-turn in front of patrol vehicles and headed north back to Graham. He continued to travel at high speeds north toward Graham and blacked out all lights on his vehicle multiple times while fleeing police units.

The vehicle pursuit ended at 1561 Hwy. 67 S when a stop was conducted by the pursuing officers. During a vehicle search, a large amount of a white crystalline substance was located, believed to be methamphetamine.
