New Documentary Highlights Effort to Digitize Work of PNW Photographer
The team at Cascade PBS is looking to reshape understanding of the region’s collective past through a new documentary called "Asahel: The Curtis Collection." Asahel Curtis was one of the Pacific Northwest’s most prolific photographers. From the 1890s through the 1940s, Curtis’ work captured the state’s natural resources, industries, early cities, historic events, and people.
UW Tacoma plans to resume in-person operations next week after deadly crash knocked out power
TACOMA, Wash. — Two weeks after a fatal crash knocked out power for the University of Washington Tacoma and nearby businesses, the campus is set to reopen next week. UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange said the campus will reopen on Monday unless there are unexpected issues in power restoration. Lange said UW Tacoma will continue to suspend in-person operation through Saturday before the campus' planned reopening next week.

The $50,000 Kent Stakes was also contested with a field of 11 going 6 1/2 furlongs. The track was fast and 56 starters for an average of 7 starters per race. Nearly 10,000 people were on hand to cheer on both the horses and Corgi’s. They were also in a betting mood wagering the 2nd highest handle of the season of $1,555,586 just shy of the $1,565,104 on June 16. This was an average of $194,448 per race and led to some season high pay-outs.
Hobby Lobby Closes 61,500 SQFT Store in Tacoma Central Shopping Mall
Arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby has closed its store in the Tacoma Central shopping center earlier this month. The 61,484-square-foot space, located at 3130 S. 23rd, appears to now be available for lease, according to a report from the Puget Sound Business Journal. The vacant building is owned by an entity affiliated with Pietromonaco Jackson Properties, a Mercer Island-based real estate company. The property is listed for lease at $16 per square foot, or $82,000 per month for the entire building. The property sits on a 5-acre site and includes parking.
