APPLETON, Wis. — It was a home run derby up north as the Beloit Sky Carp smacked three homers to help snap a six-game losing skid with a 6-0 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday.

Beloit now trails the six-game series 2-1.

Josh Zamora got the long-ball parade started as he smacked a solo home run, his fifth homer of the season, over the left-field fence off starter Will Rudy in the top of the second.

Yiddi Cappe and Jake Thompson each hit two-out singles in the third to set up Mark Coley’s three-run blast to center field that upped Beloit’s lead to 4-0.

Just three pitches later, Cameron Barstad hit his third home run of the season when he sent one over the right-center field wall.

Johnny Olmstead doubled to start the fourth inning and moved to third an out later after Jake DeLeo reached on a fielder’s choice before Osiris Johnson made it 6-0 with his sacrifice fly to left.

The Timber Rattlers bullpen settled in after that as Jake Polancic, Aaron Rund, Tyler Wehrle and Craig Yoho combined to allow just a Thompson walk and a Zamora single over five scoreless innings.

First-place Wisconsin (23-13) racked up 11 strikeouts but Beloit’s pitching was even more effective Thursday night.

Cade Gibson started and lasted seven scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Josh Ekness allowed just a hit and got a strikeout in the eighth while Dane Stanavich struck out the side in the ninth.

Coley finished with three hits for the Sky Carp (18-17) while Cappe and Zamora each had two. Gregory Barrios went 2-for-4 for the Timber Rattlers, who were outhit 8-5.

Beloit and Wisconsin will continue the six-game series on Friday at 6:40 p.m. Saturday and Sunday’s games both start at 1:10 p.m.
