    BASEBALL

    Denfeld 9, Grand Rapids 8

    Grand Rapids 3, Bemidji 2

    Grand Rapids 5, Bemidji 4

GRAND RAPIDS— Duluth Denfeld put up six runs on five hits in the second inning to chase Thunderhawks starting pitcher Dominic Broberg early, and the Thunderhawks weren’t able to hold off the Hunters on Wednesday at Bob Streetar field, losing 9-8. Broberg was followed up by Nolan Svatos and Gavin Moen on the mound, but Caleb Gunderson would get the majority of the relief innings, throwing 3 ⅔ innings while striking out four and allowing none.

Kyler Miller had two hits, four RBI and a stolen to lead the Thunderhawks offense, who put up 10 hits in the game.

The Thunderhawks were back in action on Thursday, traveling to Bemidji to take on the Pioneers in a two-game series, taking both games to get back into the winning column. The Thunderhawks got big pitching performances in both games, starting with Easton Sjostrand who went seven innings and struck out six, while only allowing one earned run. Oliver Spahn went 2-2 at the plate with a run scored and Jameson Duell went 2-3 with an RBI to help lead the Thunderhawks.

In the follow-up game, it was Nolan Svatos turn to shine on the mound, also throwing a complete game, allowing one earned run on five hits. Caleb Gunderson had a huge day at the plate, going 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Kyler Miller collected two hits with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. But maybe even more impressive than those performances is the nine walks the Thunderhawks took to keep bodies on the basepaths for Grand Rapids.

“They bounced back and locked-in after a disappointing Wednesday performance,” said head coach Bill Kinnunen.

The Thunderhawks are at Hibbing on Monday.

    Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin 17, International Falls 12

I’FALLS— GNK and I’Falls combined for 29 runs in seven innings, and it was the Titans on top, taking out the Broncos 17-12 on the road. GNK hopes to bring that offensive momentum to Deer River on Friday. Results of that game were unavailable at publication.

    Laporte 11, Hill City-Northland 4

LAPORTE— The Storm were in Laporte to take on the Wildcats but could not generate the offense to keep up with the home team, who got the win 11-4 over Hill City-Northland. Hill City-Northland is in Chisholm on Friday. Results of the game were unavailable at publication.

    Mountain Iron-Buhl, Deer River

GRAND RAPIDS— Grand Rapids hosted Hibbing on Tuesday in a six-inning rainout, losing to the Bluejackets 4-1. Addie Linder continued her dominance from the mound despite taking the loss, limiting Hibbing to only one hit in the game. She walked four batters and allowed four runs, while striking out 12. Aune Boben was the winning pitcher for Hibbing, also collecting Hibbing’s lone hit that scored two runs. On Thursday against Cloquet, Linder allowed five runs on six hits in a shut-out loss to the Lumberjacks, but did not have any run-support in the 5-0 loss. The Thunderhawks are back on the road Friday, in Superior. Results of the game were unavailable prior to publication.

We did have 3 errors in the game. Hibbing’s speed on the bases from their pitcher played the biggest part in forcing plays by our defense.

    She stole 4 bases.
