Jill Reini loves to learn, and she loves books. Mixing those two passions, she has landed herself the perfect position.

Reini is the new director of Hibbing Public Library, a title she’s held since July 1. Prior to that, she was a seasonal library technician, having worked with the Hibbing Public Library staff for about six months. In that role she most often processed books, assisted patrons and helped with social media, among other tasks.

“It seemed exciting, and it seemed like something I could do,” said Reini of the job opening. “I love to learn new things. I enjoy working here, and I was encouraged to apply,” Reini has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bemidji State University and an AA from Hibbing Community College. A consummate student, she’s also just short of earning a master’s in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

“Jill has been an amazing addition to the Hibbing Public Library,” said Candie Seppala, City Clerk/Deputy Administrator. “Her love of books, her desire to serve the public and how she gets along with the staff that has been there for some time have made her a natural fit and has led to an easy transition.”

Reini has a natural leadership style and an even-keel demeanor. “I’m fair, loyal and believe in an open-door approach. I believe in getting things done and accountability,” she said. “I’m a people person, and a lot of people are comfortable talking to me and telling me things. Helping people has always been an undercurrent in my life.”

Hibbing Public Library currently has a staff of about 12, including library specialists, technicians, summer interns and aides. Reini describes the staff as knowledgeable, helpful and upbeat. Her transition from tech to director thus far has been good and pretty fluid, she said.

“Hibbing Public Library is good at community,” added Reini. “We welcome everyone and are inclusive of everyone. We offer fun—fun programs, a fun atmosphere and a caring staff.”

While her daily duties have shifted to more of an operations capacity, Reini promises to still be on the library floor interacting with the public. She looks forward to expanding programming and resources offered at Hibbing Public Library.

“A library is more than just books,” said Reini. “But books really are my favorite.”

    Library hours are 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.
