The fall season for the Grand/Rapids (GRG) Lightning tennis is well underway, having played multiple matches already in the latter days of August. The Lightning are captained by Mercury Bischoff and Ryleigh Sherlock, two experienced leaders that will set the tone for the team like the pair did in their doubles victory to open the season this week. GRG had a strong showing versus Superior on the road to start the year. Despite the 4-3 defeat, GRG swept all three doubles matches, identifying an early-season strength to build confidence. They weren’t able to pull away with a singles win against Superior, but the first tests of the season offers areas to work on and improve moving forward, which is where the focus will be for Jen Dulong, who returns for her fourth season as head coach of GRG girls tennis, after previously serving as an assistant coach.
