    Grand Rapids swimming takes down CEC in first dual

    CLOQUET — The Grand Rapids girls swim and dive team won their first meet of the year. The Thunderhawks went on the road and took down CEC in their dual event, in a strong win over the Lumberjacks.

    Grand Rapids was dominant in the pool Tuesday, both in the relays and individually.

    The 200 Yard Medley was won by Grand Rapids by nearly ten seconds, after the team of

    Sylvie Ledermann, Laurne Rauzi, Emily Ericson, and Treasure Jager completed the event in 2:01.97.

    Grand Rapids was strong in the 100 Yard Fly, taking three of the top four spots, led by Marlene Ericson, who finished in 1:13.50. In third was Gentry Byers, who finished in 1:16.02, just ahead of Lola Nintzel, who came in at 1:18.19.

    Ericson was the winner of the 100 Yard Freestyle, and the only swimmer to finish in under a minute, coming in at 58:24. Grand Rapids also took the second and third spots in the race. Lederman was behind Ericson at 1:01.48, followed by Kelsie Zimmer, at 1:02.20.

    The Thunderhawks relay teams also dominated the 200 Yard Free Relay, claiming the top-3 spots in this race as well, led by Rauzi, Zimmer, Ledermann, and Hoard, who finished seven seconds ahead of their teammates, taking first place in 1:50.18.

    The second place team featuring Jager, Byers, Nintzel, and Ava Goodman of Grand Rapids came in at 1:57:32.

    In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Grand Rapids was at the top once again, led by Marlene Ericson, who won it with a finish of 1:10.77. Aubrie Hoard claimed third for Grand Rapids, with a time of 1:14.78

    Lauren Rauzi was the winner of the 100 Yard BreastStroke, finishing with at time of

    1:17.83. She was followed by Gentry Byers at 1:24.72, and Treasure Jager in fourth, at 1:27.39.

    The girls capped off a victory with a win in the 400 Yard Free Relay event, when their A team took the win with a time of 4:12.75.

    The return to the water next Thursday, in Superior.
