    GNK cross country impressive at Border Battle in Grand Forks

    GRAND FORKS — The Greenway-Nashwauk/Keewatin girls cross country team placed 14th out of 27 schools in the Single-A 5k event in Grand Forks’ 2024 Border Battle, led by Lola Champlin, state-runner for GNK who was at her best in North Dakota this last Saturday. Champlin finished 12th overall among 225 runners and was only 1:18 off the leader, coming in at 20:28.3 for a big finish for the Titans.

    Teammate Taylor Covier came in less than 20 seconds later in 18th place, with a time of 20:44.

    Kota Powers also ran strong for GNK, with an impressive 37th place finish out of 225, with a time of 21:28.2.

    258 boys varsity runners competed in the Single-A 2024 Border Battle cross country event in Grand Forks last Saturday, and Greenway-Nashwauk/Keewatin’s Bryce Nielsen was among the very best. Nielsen finished the 5k event in 17:22.3, only 1:31.6 behind the winner from Bowman County.

    Nielsen’s teammate Hunter Milstead was not far behind, finishing 33rd overall with a time of 17:49.6 for the impressive Titan duo.

    Bryce Nielsen’s twin brother Brayden, was also a top-finisher for GNK. Brayden finished with a sub-18 time of 17:52.2. Just barely two minutes behind the winner. The GNK boys finished seventh overall out of 37 participating schools.
