Hwy 169 in Grand Rapids detoured for railroad crossing replacement

The City of Cohasset will host an Autumnal (Fall) Equinox Sunrise Celebration on Monday, Sept. 23, at 7 a.m. at Tioga Recreation Area. NCREM announces 2024 recipient of annual scholarship
The North Central Retired Educators Association (NCREM) announces the 2024 recepient of their annual scholarship at the April 8 meeting. Ethan Thompson has completed his two year studies in the Class Act Program at Minnesota North College Itasca Campus.Ethan is a graduate of Deer River High School; he will be entering the Social Studies track at Bemidji State university this fall. Ethan credits his family with supporting his entry into Minnesota North College Itasca Campus in Grand Rapids.. He also acknowledges the encouragement received from Deer River History teacher, Mary Evans, who recognized his potential to follow his future dream of becoming a teacher. Presenting Ethan with the scholarship is Connie Daigle, retired educator and President of local NCREA, Lenny Brown, Treasurer and Craig Hattam, both retired educators and members of local NCREA.

NAMI Grand Rapids Area visited VFW Post 1720 meeting Tuesday Sept. 10 to thank the VFW members for their donation of $2,000 to NAMIWalks. The Walk is Sunday Sept. 22 leaving from Rapids Brewing. Registration is at 2:30 p.m.; T-shirts available for $20 with refreshments to follow. In May, the VFW participated in a panel discussion of veteran mental health co-sponsored by NAMI and Big View. In November, NAMI and VFW will organize a panel presentation on mental health issues specific to women veterans. Each day, 22 soldiers or veterans in the US die by suicide. We work together to change that.
MN Adult & Teen Challenge at Nashwauk Alliance
On Sunday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m., the MN Adult and Teen Challenge Choir will be sharing music and testimony during the morning service at Nashwauk Alliance Church. They would like to invite all who are interested in promoting recovery and restoring hope to those who are struggling with drug and alcohol addictions to join. They encourage all of those who are working with addicts, suffering from addictions, and those who are on the journey to recovery to attend. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
