The Grand Rapids Ballet is set to enchant audiences once again at DeVos Performance Hall with their captivating rendition of the timeless fairytale, “Sleeping Beauty.”

Audiences will be transported into a world of magic and wonder as they witness one of the most beloved classical ballets of all time brought to life on stage. With exquisite costumes, opulent sets, and mesmerizing choreography, this production promises to be a feast for the senses. Choreographed by the esteemed Devon Carney, Artistic Director of Kansas City Ballet, and accompanied live by the Grand Rapids Symphony performing Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score, “Sleeping Beauty” is a spectacle not to be missed.

“This production is a labor of love, and I am thrilled to bring my interpretation of this beloved classic to the Grand Rapids Ballet stage. The talent and dedication of the GRB artists have been truly inspiring, and I am excited to introduce this masterpiece to audiences,” expresses Carney.

The timeless tale follows the journey of Princess Aurora, cursed by the malevolent fairy Carabosse, and the noble Prince Désiré, whose true love’s kiss holds the power to break the spell.

“To dance Sleeping Beauty, especially the principal roles, is no small feat,” said Artistic Director James Sofranko. “The technique required is demanding, and the style is specific. Our dancers have dedicated themselves to perfecting every movement, ensuring a flawless performance for our audience.”

Leading GRB dancers Yuka Oba-Muschiana and Sarah Marley share the coveted role of Aurora, each bringing their unique artistry and dedication to the stage. “It’s a dream role for me, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to perform it. I hope the audience feels our dedication, creating a truly magical experience,” said Oba-Muschiana.

In addition to the mesmerizing performances, patrons can immerse themselves further in the enchantment with “Sleeping Beauty’s Birthday Party” on Sunday, February 25. This special event offers attendees the chance to enjoy enchanting crafts, delectable treats, and even meet GRB’s Princess Aurora before the matinee performance.

“Sleeping Beauty” graces the stage at DeVos Performance Hall from February 23-25, 2024. Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person at GRB’s Box Office, offering patrons the opportunity to bypass Ticketmaster fees and support the company directly.
