    Pools opening for summer

    As the City of Grand Rapids eagerly anticipates the opening of its pools and splash pads on Friday, June 7, there’s one crucial detail still making waves—lifeguards! The City is looking for water-loving heroes to keep the waves of laughter rolling all season long! Apply HERE to make a splash while earning money at one of the coolest job of the summer! Those who need it will receive free American Red Cross certification.

    Open swim hours at Briggs Park pool (350 Knapp St. NE):

    • Mondays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Tuesdays – noon to 5 p.m.
    • Wednesdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Thursdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Fridays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Saturdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Sundays – noon to 4 p.m.

    Open swim hours at Martin Luther King Park pool (1200 MLK Jr. St. SE):

    • Mondays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Tuesdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Wednesdays – noon to 5 p.m.
    • Thursdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Fridays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Saturdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Sundays – noon to 4 p.m.

    Lap swim hours:

    • Tuesdays – 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    • Thursdays – 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    • Saturdays – 9 to 11:30 a.m.

    Open swim hours at Richmond Park pool (1101 Richmond St. NW):

    • Mondays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Tuesdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Wednesdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Thursdays – noon to 5 p.m.
    • Fridays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Saturdays – noon to 7 p.m.
    • Sundays – noon to 4 p.m.

    Lap swim hours:

    • Mondays – 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    • Wednesdays – 10 to 11:30 a.m.
    • Saturdays – 9 to 11:30 a.m.

    Additional recreation programming will be happening in and near the pools this summer, including:

    City splash pads will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the following locations:

    • Alger Park (921 Alger St. SE)
    • Campau Park (50 Antoine St. SW)
    • Cherry Park (725 Cherry St. SE)
    • Fuller Park (300 Fuller Ave. NE)
    • Garfield Park (250 Burton St. SE)
    • Gerald R. Ford Academic Center (851 Madison Ave. SE)
    • Heartside Park (301 Ionia Ave. SW)
    • Highland Park (700 College Ave. NE)
    • Joe Taylor Park (1038 Bemis St. SE)
    • Lincoln Park (1120 Bridge St. NW)
    • Mary Waters Park (1042 Lafayette Ave. NE)
    • Mulick Park (1632 Sylvan Ave. SE)
    • Roosevelt Park (739 Van Raalte Dr. SW)
    • Wilcox Park (100 Youell Ave. SE)

    Pools will be open daily through August 17. Splash pads will be open daily through September 8.

    Admission for city pools costs $1 for Grand Rapids residents 17 and under. It costs $3 for Grand Rapids residents over 17 and for nonresidents 17 and under. It costs $5 for nonresidents over 17. Ten-hole punch cards are available for $8 for residents and $18 for nonresidents. 20-hole punch cards are available for $15 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Season passes for families up to six people are $80 for residents and $90 for nonresidents.

    All pool hours are weather dependent. Cancellations due to weather and maintenance will be announced on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page and the department’s cancellation hotline at 616.456.3699.
