GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has pleaded guilty to robbing a downtown Grand Rapids bank last year.

Timothy Crane was accused of entering the Comerica Bank branch on Monroe Avenue NW near Louis Street in June 2023 and passing a note demanding money. The bank teller said she “opened her cash drawer and handed the suspect everything she had in her till,” court records show.

The robbery netted less than $700.

The suspect was recognized in surveillance video by two Grand Rapids officers and arrested the following week.

Crane was initially charged in state court, but the case was moved to federal court . He underwent a forensic evaluation that found him competent to stand trial. The guilty plea followed.

Crane is due back in court for sentencing in September.
