GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 9-year-old has died at the hospital after being pulled from the water at a Grand Rapids park, officials say.

Crews were called around 5 p.m. to the northern section of Riverside Park, which is located on Monroe Avenue near 3 Mile Road NE, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department. Authorities say a child was missing and was believed to be in the river.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department and GRPD responded. Firefighters and police officers “immediately” went into the water to seek the 9-year-old, a release from the departments says.

After several minutes, officials say the child was found and brought to shore. CPR was administered and the 9-year-old was taken to the hospital, where they later died, according to the release.
