Donald Trump is back on the campaign trail, this time with his vice presidential pick.

The former President and Ohio Sen. JD Vance — marking their first rally together and Trump's first since the assassination attempt against him July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania — took the stage Saturday in front of a raucous, enthusiastic crowd at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, promising that Republicans will take back Michigan this year.

"We're a failing nation," Trump said early in his speech. "We cannot let it slip by. We cannot let people cheat. … Or we're not going to have a country."

Dave Boucher has more from Trump's speech , which included attacks against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and rejections that he is a threat to democracy.

Also, an exclusive Free Press poll finds that Trump has a considerable lead over President Joe Biden in Michigan — a worrying sign for Biden amid calls for him to drop out of the race. He previously won Michigan by three points in 2020.
