GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Some Grand Rapids residents will soon be able to ride Lime e-scooters and e-bikes for free.

Lime and the city of Grand Rapids are launching a pilot program for residents who qualify for state, city and federal subsidies. Eligible residents will be able to take five free, 30-minute rides each day as part of Lime Access, Lime and the city announced Monday.

According to Lime’s website , residents can apply for Lime Access if they qualify for programs like SNAP, Medicaid or WIC.

Lime already offers discounted rides to some residents through Lime Access. Rides taken in neighborhoods like Roosevelt Park, John Ball Park and Garfield Park also automatically receive a 30% discount.

“Equity has been at the heart of our service to Grand Rapids from day one, and we are grateful to work with the city to launch this groundbreaking new initiative,” LeAaron Foley, Lime’s senior director of government relations, said in a Monday release. “We know our e-scooters and e-bikes help people move around the city safely, sustainably, and affordably and we are excited to see if we can welcome even more of the city into the Lime rider community.”

Foley also said Lime will be conducting research before and after the launch of the pilot program to “see if there are lessons to apply in the future.”

Lime has had scooters and e-bikes in Grand Rapids since 2021 . Around 266,000 riders have taken more than 832,000 rides over the last three years, Lime said Monday.
