    Take your dog for a dip in the pool at this free Grand Rapids event

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Dogs have a chance to cool off in the pool during the city of Grand Rapids’ annual Wag ‘n’ Wade event.

    The dog swim event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 18 from noon to 4:45 p.m. at Richmond Park Pool, located at 1101 Richmond St. NW, the city said in a release. Small dogs that weigh less than 35 pounds can swim from noon to 1 p.m. and large dogs that weigh more than 35 pounds can swim from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    A special session for dogs 8 years or older will also take place from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

    Only dogs will be allowed in the water. There will be tennis balls, dog drinking water and waste cleanup bags from the Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department.

    Up to 120 dogs can participate in each session. To register, go to grandrapidsmi.gov .

    Only two dogs per household can be registered, and dog owners must provide proof of their pet’s rabies vaccination.

    The Aug. 18 marks the end of the 2024 pool season. The city’s three public pools will be open to humans through Aug. 17, and its splash pads will be open through Sept. 8, according to its website .
