GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Downtown Market in Grand Rapids was noisy with the sounds of honking and music Tuesday as area kids got the chance to check out firetrucks, construction vehicles and other specialty machines.
The annual Meet the Machines event took place Tuesday afternoon. Kids and their families could get a close look at specialty vehicles from local organizations, like a one with a mechanical organ from the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Also on hand was the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, driven by hotdoggers Sarah ‘Kraut’ Oney and ‘Sizzlin’ Stephen Harrison. The two have been on the road for a month and have already stopped at seven states.
There are six Wienermobiles throughout the country. Oney and Harrison make up the Midwest team. They have stopped at Chicago Pride, an IndyCar race at the Iowa Speedway and other fun events. They even got an autograph from Post Malone at one of his concerts, where they held up a sign offering him a ride.

“We’ve had some really great memories so far, it’s insane that it’s only been a month on the road,” Oney said. “Every day is like a movie. Every day we get to meet so many incredible people and we’re very fortunate.”
The inside of the Wienermobile is spacious, with Oscar Mayer-themed seats, a blue sky design on the roof and plenty of hot dog puns. Oney and Harrison said the person in the passenger seat sits “shot-bun,” they make sure to buckle up their “meat belt,” and they open up the “bun roof” to let in more sunlight.

The two don’t spend the night in the Wienermobile, instead parking at hotels along their routes. They said they get their event schedules one or two months out and never know what to expect.
“I think that’s the best part is that we could be anywhere in two months, and that’s really exciting,” Harrison said.
“It’s the conversations you have there that really make it worthwhile. Like one moment, I’m talking to a clown who’s giving me a poem, and the next second I’m talking to someone who saw the Wienermobile 30 years ago and how much it means to him,” Oney said.

Tuesday’s stop comes just a day after another Wienermobile was involved in a crash. A Wienermobile flipped over after hitting a car along I-294 in the Chicago area, the Associated Press reports . Oney and Harrison said both hotdoggers in that Wienermobile were OK.
They said they went to ‘Hot Dog High’ in Madison, Wisconsin, for two weeks in the beginning of June, where local authorities trained them on safely driving the Wienermobile.
