Suspect in domestic assault arrested after hours-long standoff with state police

A man was arrested after an hours-long standoff with Michigan State Police troopers.

Investigators say the suspect attacked a family member around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning on South Riverwood Drive, near the intersection of East River Road and Dalson Road in Dalton Township.

The first troopers on scene pulled the victim from the home to get them to medical care. A state police spokesperson says the victim has serious injuries.

The suspect refused to cooperate with troopers, staying inside the home. State police dispatched negotiators, an emergency support team and a bomb squad.

After hours of attempted contact, the emergency support team stormed into the house and put the man under arrest. State police tell FOX 17 they used flash-bang devices leading up to the entry into the home.

The man is being held on a warrant for assault with intent to great bodily harm. Police say no firearm was used during the attack, and no one else was inside the home at the time.
