GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — West Michigan athletes are competing on the most prestigious stage in sports: The Olympics.

Join News 8 at 7 p.m. Friday for Olympic Hopes, Gold Dreams, airing on WOOD TV8 and streaming in this article.

Sports Director Jack Doles is introducing you to athletes with Michigan ties competing in the Paris Games, from Caledonia’s Alena Olsen, who says she’s “not too sweet” for rugby;” to Tokyo silver medalist Hannah Roberts, who’s aiming for the BMX gold this time; to two Olympians who throw discus for two different countries but support one another; plus many more.

The Games got underway Wednesday, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled to air on WOOD TV8 starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
