    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — August could not be off to a better start thanks to all of the events happening in West Michigan.

    Here is a look at what you can do the weekend of Aug. 2:

    GR Hispanic Festival

    The 2024 Grand Rapids Hispanic Festival is set to kick off at Calder Plaza this Friday.

    You will have three days to check out all of the authentic foods, art, music, dancing and more. It is free to attend.

    Storm Team 8 Forecast

    The Black Experience 2024

    GRPS University will host a three-day event that will provide lots of education and entertainment.

    The Black Experience begins Friday and continues through Sunday. There will be several special guests, including NBA player Xavier Tillman, who will speak to residents about a wide variety of topics.

    Flix on the Field

    Head on down to LMCU Ballpark this Friday night and catch a double feature on the big screen.

    The home of the West Michigan Whitecaps will air special showings of “Encanto” and “Barbie” starting at 7 p.m. This is part of the Family Fare Flix on the Field series.

    Prom of the Decades

    The second annual Prom of the Decades returns this weekend at the Hope Network’s River Valley facility in Grand Rapids.

    Volunteers, formalwear needed for Hope Network’s ‘Prom of the Decades’

    The event will be held Friday and will give residents the chance to relive their prom days and dress up once again.

    Big Red Classic

    The Big Red Classic has always been a popular fishing tournament down in Holland, but it’s taking on a whole new meaning again this year.

    Holland Hospital has partnered with the tournament for the annual Women’s Ta Ta Tourney. Proceeds raised during the tournament will go towards the hospital’s Breast Care Fund.

    Alice Cooper in Kalamazoo

    The Godfather of Shock Rock is making a stop in Kalamazoo this Friday for a special show.

    Rock legend Alice Cooper will take the stage at the Wings Event Center for an unforgettable night. This is part of the 76-year-old’s Too Close For Comfort show.

    Barry County Back to School Bash

    It may not feel like it yet, but school will be starting up again soon for many West Michigan kids.

    That’s why Barry County is hosting its first-ever Back to School Bash this Saturday. Starting at 4 p.m., 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away and 100 Razor scooters will be awarded to a lucky few.

    Broad Street in downtown St. Joseph is the place to be this weekend if you want to see some amazing chalk art.
