TOWER — It was Miskovich and Miskovich again for the Grand Rapids High School Fishing team who took second place in the last of three B.A.S.S. Greater North Open Tournaments this summer.

The Grand Rapids team has shined at each of the three Opens, winning the first two tournaments before placing second this Tuesday on Lake Vermillion.

The team of Tyler Johnson and Reid Johnson won the first event on Side Lake in mid-June with a final weight of 15.88 pounds before cousins Ryder and Joey Miskovich took the win on Pokegama earlier this month with a tournament best 18.5 pounds total weight.

Team Miskovich brought that momentum up to Lake Vermillion, coming in second place with a total weight of 17.54 pounds.

It’s not by chance that these two keep finishing near the top, no matter what lake they’re fishing - they’re doing what it takes to win, according to their head coach.

“They are putting in the time by studying the lakes and doing a lot of pre-fishing trying to figure out patterns. There isn't anyone on our team that puts in more time than these two boys. Their hard work and determination is paying off big time,” said Thunderhawks head coach Chris Stanley.

Prior to the tournament, Stanley said the team needed to remember their past tournaments on Lake Vermillion and learn from them to find success this time around.

“We need to learn from our past experiences on the lake. We have historically not done great on Vermillion but now with a few years of experience under their belts, we have a higher expectation,” said Stanley.

The team met his call on Tuesday, and Team Miskovich earned some due praise for their effort on the lake.

“I am very proud of these fine young men. They are no strangers to fishing success. Two years ago they qualified for state and they also made it to the national B.A.S.S. tournament after a 4th place finish at state. I am not surprised one bit that they have qualified for state again and will not be surprised if they qualify for nationals again,” Stanley said.

UP NEXT: The Final SATT qualifying event is on Mille Lacs this Sunday. The following Sunday, August 4, is the SATT State Tournament of Champions on Big Stone Lake, and at least one Grand Rapids fishing team: Mykah Johnson and Drew Stanley, has already qualified. Look for Grand Rapids to add more teams following their weekend on Mille Lacs.
