Mud Hens starter Hurter throws seven strong innings in 7-4 win against Louisville
The Toledo Mud Hens limited the Louisville Bats to four hits in a 7-4 win on Friday at Fifth Third Field. Toledo (46-53) used four pitchers in Thursday’s 4-0 win, a combined three-hitter, and on Friday needed only three pitchers to shut down Louisville (49-49), which scored all its runs in the ninth inning. Starter Brant Hurter (2-4) yielded the first hit, a sixth-inning double by Erik Gonzalez, in seven innings with six strikeouts to no walks. Hurter totaled 77 pitches, with 58 thrown for strikes. Garrett Hill worked 1⅓ innings of relief, giving up the four runs — three on Levi Jordan’s bases-clearing double — on two hits and three walks. Austin Schulfer gave up an RBI single to Tony Kemp, but retired the final two batters via strikeout.

University of Toledo Varsity T Club announces Hall of Fame class
Seven former University of Toledo athletes will join the Varsity T Club Hall of Fame when they are enshrined Oct. 25-26, the weekend of the football game against Bowling Green. Inductees will include Joe Conroy (football, 1974-78), Arnika Edwards Bess (women’s track and field, 1995-98), Natalia Gaitan (women’s soccer, 2009-12), Kylie Gamelier (women’s swimming and diving, 2005-09), Yolanda Richardson Swain (women’s basketball, 2009-13), Glyn Smith (football and men’s track and field, 1970-72), and Ron Warga (baseball, 1996-99). Also honored will be former deputy athletic director Dave Nottke, who spent 33 years with UT athletics before retiring in 2022. The banquet will take place Friday, Oct. 25, at the Pinnacle in Maumee. Tickets ($50 individual or $500 for a table of 10) are available from the UT athletic department office at 419-530-5087. The class also will be honored at halftime of the football game on Saturday, Oct. 26, against Bowling Green at the Glass Bowl.
I-TEAM: New Toledo Police chase policy
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A new set of rules is now governing Toledo Police chases. The department updated its policy after a string of chases killed and injured multiple people. One of the big changes is that when a supervisor decides to end a chase, all the vehicles involved are now required to turn off their lights and sirens. They are also asked to pull over as soon as possible to let the person they are chasing know the pursuit is off. The goal is to then have the person they are chasing slow down so they do not get hurt.
