Firefighters rescue and revive two dogs in Fort Worth house fire, another tragically perishes
FORT WORTH, Texas — Firefighters and EMS crews rescued and revived two dogs from a residential fire on Portales Avenue, though one dog perished.Just before 11 a.m., the Fort Worth Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 2900 block of Portales Avenue on the west side. The only occupant who was home escaped before units arrived.Quint 23 found heavy smoke emanating from the one-story home and initiated an interior attack with the first hose line. The second hose line was used to protect adjacent homes as heavy fire engulfed the attic. Inside, firefighters worked to pull ceilings down to put water onto the fire burning above them, while others searched the home for several dogs still inside.Firefighters found three dogs and brought them out to a MedStar crew, who worked to revive them. Two dogs survived, but one perished. The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes with firefighters from nine units, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
