GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — An annual softball game in Grandville Wednesday night raised money for a Kent County sheriff’s deputy whose wife was killed in a crash at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.

Dozens of people showed up at Wedgwood Park for the annual John Davis Memorial Softball Game. The police versus firefighters game has been an annual tradition to honor John Davis, a Grandville police officer who died of colon cancer in 2018.

Davis’ family and the Grandville Police Department decided all proceeds will go to Deputy Charlie Price’s family.

The Kent County deputy’s wife was hit by a jeep on May 26 at Silver Lake State Park. She was able to push her 2-year-old daughter out of the way before the crash.

“Great young father trying to do the best he can for his family, and we decided to pick that family as the beneficiary. Not only Deputy Price, but his kids see that it’s not just the sheriff’s department that is going to be there for him, it’s the entire first responders community,” said Paul Anglim, chief of police for the City of Grandville.

Kadie’s family said she was a loving wife and a “fierce momma bear.”
