Results: National High School Rodeo Finals Performances 8 and 9
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - Just two days remain at the National High Schools Final Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Columbia Falls' Azzy Lara is second in the bareback riding average with a total score of 149, trailing Texas cowboy Kash Loyd at 152.5. Sheridan, Wyoming's Abagail Olson is second in the barrel racing average with a toatl of 34.448 seconds. She trails Utah's Morgan Beckstrom's 34.1 seconds.
Mustangs fall to Powell, clobber Riverton
Sweeps were the order of the day for the Lovell Mustangs last week as they were swept by rival Powell Thursday but came back strong to do the same to Riverton Friday. The 2-2 split leaves the Mustangs at 19-22-2 heading into the Class A West District Tournament July 19-21 in Green River.

Maggie Springs 8th Annual ATV Run is this Saturday
The 8th Annual Maggie Springs Side by Side Run will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 9 a.m. Maggie Springs is located 25.5 miles down Highway 191 South. A sign stating, ‘Turn Left to Camp Site,’ directs participants to the starting point. The first rider will head out at 9 a.m., and a meal will be served around 2 p.m.
Green River “C” team with state win, Spartans fall, Knights play today
Things got off to a good start for the Green River “C” American Legion baseball team at the “C” state tournament in Lovell. The 15 and under team won its opening game 4-1 over Douglas. Green River will now face Laramie this evening. Laramie was a 3-1 first game winner over Lovell. The double-elimination, eight-team tournament will run through Monday if necessary.
Tracks Lurking in Southern Utah Reveal That Dinosaurs Swam
Tracks Found in St. George Changed Our Understanding of Dinosaurs. If you visit the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site in St. George, you will see tracks from these early reptiles left in the mud and clay of an ancient lake. These were discovered in St. George in 2000 and are on display. These dinosaur tracks settled one of the controversies among paleontologists.
NHSFR results as of Thursday morning
ALAMOSA – The National High School Finals Rodeo’s seventh performance was completed on Thursday morning at the Sweetwater Events Center in Rock Springs, Wyo. Klayt Staudt of Saguache finished his performances in boys cutting on Wednesday. In his first performance on Wednesday morning, he compiled a score of 137 points which was 45th in the first go-round. In his second run, he scored 130 points which was 24th in the go as of Thursday morning. His total score of 267 points is 20th overall as of Thursday morning.
Kum and Gone — Maverik Rebranding of Kum and Go Stores Set for September
ROCK SPRINGS – The Kum & Go brand will see its final days in Rock Springs in early September with closures scheduled to renovate the convenience stores to the Maverik brand. According to a schedule published on Maverik’s website, the three Rock Springs Kum & Go locations will close during the second week of September. The first closure will take place at the Elk Street location, which will close Sept. 9. The 9th Street location closes the next day, while the Foothill Boulevard location is set to close Sept. 11. All three locations will reopen Sept. 17.
