Mountain lion struck and killed by car on 405 Freeway
A mountain lion was struck and killed on northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway on Thursday. It's unclear exactly when the crash occurred and what kind of vehicle struck the big cat, but a single orange cone could be seen lying next to the body in the center divider of the freeway in the Sepulveda Pass. Officials with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were said to be heading to the area to pick up the mountain lion's body, according to the California Highway Patrol. Once they retrieve the body and run tests they will be able to determine if the big cat was tagged, according to Beth Pratt, the Regional Executive Director of the California National Wildlife Federation. Some Evacuation Orders, Warnings lifted as Pay Fire burns in El Dorado County
PLACERVILLE, Calif. — A vegetation fire is threatening structures and has prompted evacuations in El Dorado County Saturday, officials said. The Pay Fire is burning in the area of Paydirt Road, southeast of Placerville, the El Dorado County Fire Protection District says. The flames moved along the Placerville Airport.

Sacramento County stops water deliveries to homeless encampments
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County is no longer delivering water to homeless encampments during what could become a historic heat wave. According to both the city and county of Sacramento, this was always going to happen . Sacramento County said water deliveries were always going to end, because they were funded by American Rescue Plan Dollars that no longer exist. The funds were part of a contract with SANE to distribute drinking water to encampments, as part of the COVID-19 public health crisis, for the last four years. The pandemic is over and large encampments no longer exist.
