UNC System awards $29 million to expand nursing education at UNCW and 11 other universities
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The UNC System is awarding almost $29 million in grants to expand nursing education at 12 universities and NC’s Area Health Education Centers. “Like many states across the country, North Carolina is coping with an alarming drop in nursing professionals. The state is projected to have a shortage of up to 18,600 registered nurses over the next decade, a major challenge for health care providers and an aging patient population, according to an analysis by The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Sheps Center for Health Services Research,” a UNC System announcement states.

2024 Women’s Triathlon Schedule Released
HICKORY, NC - The quest for a three-peat starts in August, as head coach Harley Mason and the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Triathlon team have released their 2024 schedule. The show is based on the 1992 film that starred Whoopi Goldberg. The story is centered around Deloris Van Cartier, an aspiring singer who witnesses her boyfriend killing someone and goes into hiding. The musical features music by composer Alan Menken, and the original production was nominated for five Tony awards.

Incentive package of $13M lures Nipro headquarters to North Carolina
(The Center Square) – Nipro, manufacturer of medical surgical and renal products, has been lured to North Carolina by an incentive package of more than $13 million. The 70-year-old Japanese company secured a $2.48 million grant from the state toward a $397 million manufacturing center and American headquarters. It is eligible for other assistance such as job training and infrastructure support, bringing the total amount of potential state incentives to $4.16 million. NCDHHS announces $11M investment in family-based behavioral health services for children with complex needs
RALEIGH — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced an $11 million investment in treatment services designed to keep children who have complex behavioral health needs in homes and communities, and out of inappropriate boarding. The department is partnering with Rapid Resources for Families to expand access to family-based therapeutic programs, enabling children to receive trauma-informed treatment in a home-based setting.
