    North Augusta man dies in car crash in rural Graniteville area

    The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that took place Saturday.

    Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said a North Augusta man was driving a 2010 Nissan Maxima north on Ascauga Lake Road when he ran off the right side of the road, hitting a mailbox, then a tree. The crash occurred in a rural area of Graniteville at about 7:50 p.m. on the 900 block of Ascuaga Lake Road near Chalk Bed Road.

    The driver was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:33 p.m. from blunt force injuries, noted the coroner. His name will not be released until his next-of-kin have been notified. Toxicology analysis is pending.
