Road closure, Glenwood Spring Bustang's Service Deploys Temporary Routes

GLENWOOD SPRING, CO - The Colorado Department of Transportation is modifying Bustang's diversion route between Grand Junction and Denver, allowing service to resume between the two cities.

As part of the I-70 diversion through Glenwood Canyon, both eastbound and westbound routes are now running back and forth between Rifle and Glenwood Springs.

Mike Timlin, the deputy director of CDOT’s Division of Transit and Rail said that Glenwood Springs is an essential location on the Western Slope since it serves as a hub for passengers traveling to Grand Junction or the Front Range from the Roaring Fork Valley. Because this shutdown could last several days or perhaps longer, they hope to get service back to Glenwood as soon as possible.

CO. 13, U.S. 40, and CO. 131 are the current detour routes for Bustang between Rifle and Wolcott. Traveling between Grand Junction and Denver used to take about 5 hours and 40 minutes before Glenwood Canyon was closed. Currently, it takes 9 hours and 45 minutes. The road will be closed from 6 August 2021, until further notice.

Flag stops are towns or junction sites where the bus will only stop if a passenger is waiting for or wishes to be dropped off at a Bustang sign. Some stop sites are currently being finalized due to the new, temporary route.

Daily Garfield County pickups are scheduled in Parachute at 8.25 p.m., Rifle at 8.45 a.m., Glenwood Springs at 9.13 a.m., and a second Rifle pickup at 9.41 a.m. on the eastbound Bustang schedule. Before using the detour route, the arrival time at Denver Union Station is 5.26 p.m.
