JOHNSON COUNTY, CO - Singer-songwriter Kelley Hunt will hold an outdoor concert at Nerman Museum Lawn on August 20. This free outdoor event is scheduled to start at 8.30 p.m.

Hunt will perform favorites as well as new material that will likely feature on an album coming out later this year during this exciting outdoor concert.

Hunt is not only a singer, but she is also a songwriter, a pianist, and a guitarist who specializes in roots, R&B, and Americana.

She's one of a kind and a challenge to the music industry's tendency for easy artist labels.

With her unique personality and knowledge in blues, roots, and gospel traditions, she's a woman who has pushed her way onto the scene on her terms.

Critics and fans across North America and Europe have praised her dominating and impassioned stage presence, as well as her exceptional vocal, keyboard, and songwriting abilities.

Hunt, who was born in Kansas City, was influenced early on by Ruth Brown, Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin, as well as a cross-section of the New Orleans/St. Louis jazz scene. Professor Longhair, Toots Washington, Johnnie Johnson, and Kansas City masters Jay McShann and Mary Lou Williams are all part of the Louis/Kansas City piano traditions.

Hunt's live performances and recordings contain traces of these very traditional influences, but the lyrics, emotion, and passion are all her own.

“The Beautiful Bones,” Hunt's sixth album and fourth as a co-producer, was released in 2014. It's been praised as the best work of her career by the press, radio, and fans. The CD has a dozen wonderfully written songs that, via the earthy poetry of her words, draw on current life with grace, humor, and gravity.

Those tunes are reinforced by a performing approach that mixes Hunt's ability with the down-home gospel, soul, and R&B – all of which are embedded in her DNA.
