LARIMER COUNTY, CO - A student was robbed in a high school parking lot, and a suspect has been caught.

A Poudre High School student reported to the School Resource Officer on August 19, 2021, at about 2:30 p.m., that she had been the victim of a robbery. According to the victim, an unknown adult lady, subsequently identified as Kayla Dreiling, 27, of Fort Collins, approached the victim in the parking lot and asked to use her phone.

A short time later, the suspect approached the victim with a revolver and attempted to seize her car keys. After a brief fight, the suspect eventually fled on foot. The victim immediately alerted her SRO, who reviewed security footage and was able to pinpoint the suspect's path of travel.

Dreiling was caught by police and taken into custody. During the investigation, a realistic replica firearm was discovered. Dreiling was charged with Aggravated Robbery (a Class 3 felony), Felony Menacing (a Class 5 felony), and Interference with Educational Institution Staff, Faculty, or Students (class 1 misdemeanor).

Jeff Swoboda, Chief of FCPS said he wants to praise the victim for contacting the SRO quickly. Despite the horrible circumstances, her quick notification allowed officers to track down the perpetrator nearly instantly.

During the incident, no one was hurt. While police investigated, Poudre High School was placed on Secure Status for almost an hour. SRO Corporal Jarad Sargent is asking anyone with knowledge on this event or suspect who has not yet talked to police to contact him at 970-416-2388

All charges are nothing more than a police accusation, and all parties must be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
