Garfield County, Co - According to Garfield County Public Health, the aim of vaccinating 70% of Garfield County is within reach, to accomplish this objective, the county will need to vaccinate an additional 2,028 people.

The first doses of COVID vaccinations administered outnumbered the second doses for the third week in a row. Last week, 60 percent of the 1,130 vaccine doses received were first doses.

The first and second doses provided to 12- to 15-year-olds increased by 16 percent, bringing the age group's vaccination rate close to 50%. Since July, 94% of the cases seen in local hospitals have been unvaccinated.

This increase is estimated because Garfield County also said that immunocompromised people who meet certain requirements can get an extra dose of vaccine at any current public health vaccine clinic, the US Department of Health and Human Services has issued a booster dose update. Public Health does not have any booster dosage clinic dates established at this time, and Cashback from Walmart.

Please plan to visit vaccine clinics later this week or the following week if you are due for a second dose of vaccine on September 6. For the Labor Day holiday, all Garfield County offices and departments are closed.

During the 2021-2022 school year, public health has been collaborating with local schools and districts on the best methods to keep staff and children safe and in person.

The single most successful technique for keeping schools open is to increase vaccination rates. but masking and quarantine/isolation are also critical.

Based on data from 7 August to 13 August 2021, the incidence rate for unvaccinated persons was nearly three times as likely to have a positive diagnosis than a vaccinated one.

The data of incidence rate shown are:

    Vaccinated: 46.9 per 100,000

    Unvaccinated: 134.9 per 100,000
