BOULDER COUNTY, CO - Boulder County Community Justice Services is looking for 16 volunteers to provide one-on-one attention to a teenager aged 11 to 16 once a week.

Many tweens and teens are experiencing a feeling of separation from friends, concern about the start of a new school year, and uncertainty about the future, especially now, during the pandemic. They have few solid people in their lives; they may be having problems with housing, school, or parental conditions, or they may be connected with the juvenile court system. Mentees seek connection, want to be heard, and require the attention of a committed, intelligent adult.

Mentoring may be a rewarding and important experience for both the participants and the young person seeking a trustworthy, caring adult. As a dedicated mentor, you can assist youngsters in the community in navigating this challenging period.

    Mentor Responsibility:

Mentors and mentees can go on walks, share a meal, work on a craft project, or learn something new together. Mentors meet one-on-one for two hours each week for a year after being matched with a youth of the same gender.

    Mentor Requirements:

    • Must be at least 21 years old.
    • Have a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and access to a vehicle.
    • Must not have been convicted of a MIP, DUI, or crime in the previous seven years.
    • Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted.
    • To participate in the program, volunteers must attend the training on September 21.
