Dominant, but pyrrhic 9-2 victory as injuries continue to stack up for Atlanta
In a huge game for the standings between two long-time rivals, we had a solid pitching matchup between Reynaldo Lopez for Atlanta and David Peterson for the Mets. The pitching dominated through the top of the third, with only a few baserunners. The Braves bats especially struggled, with five strikeouts through their first three innings. The Mets posed the first big threat of the game in the bottom third, with a leadoff double, followed by a walk. Lopez managed to escape giving up any damage with two groundouts and a pop-up. As happens so often in baseball, a missed opportunity for one team compounds into a breakthrough for the other. Atlanta got a leadoff walk from Austin Riley and a bloop single from Marcell in the fourth, and Matt Olson hit an absolute crush-job of a three run homer to give the Braves a solid lead.

Braves latest rotation concern was avoidable and lesson for Alex Anthopoulos

Looking at their roster, just about every impact player has seen some sort of injury. The preseason favorite for the NL Cy Young award, Spencer Strider, went down with a torn UCL, cutting his season short. The preseason favorite for the NL MVP award, Ronald Acuña Jr. lost his season to a torn ACL.
