Granville County Commissioners approved funding for the Home and Community Care Block grant and the 2024-2025 Recreation Mini grants at the July 1 meeting.
Kathy May, director of Senior Services presented the board with information about the Home and Community Care Block grant that totals $528,095.
The grant does require a ten percent match of $58,722 from the county which is already in the budget for this year.
The community-based services this grant includes are transportation, nutrition, in-home aide services, home ramps and senior center operations.
Commissioner Russ May asked Kathy May to explain the home improvement portion of the grant.
Kathy May said that was for building ramp. May said they used very skilled volunteers and the funding from the grants to buy the materials needed to build the ramps.
“We go all over the county building ramps,” Kathy May said. “This past fiscal year we built 26 ramps and we have been all over the county with all of our services.”
Kathy May said this program greatly impacts people being able to get out of their homes.
She said this is one program that she administers and all it takes is a phone call to the senior center in Oxford to reach her about the ramp building program.
Commissioner Rob Williford asked how many ramp will the designated $18,889 build.
Kathy May said they spend about $600-$700 per ramp. She said the people that have ramps built are given the opportunity to make a donation toward the cost of their ramp.
She said if they are able to make a donation it goes back into the home improvement fund.
