GRASONVILLE — Groups of friends, mothers and daughters, and hopeful couples flocked to Hyatt Place Kent Narrows & Marina Sunday afternoon to brush up on current wedding trends and witness the results of the Great Wedding Giveaway contest.

In collaboration with APG Media and Z104.3, Hyatt Place conceived a bridal showcase promoting the region’s finest wedding vendors. Couples had the opportunity to enter the contest by submitting how they knew their spouse-to-be was “the one.”

More than 200 guests claimed tickets to the free event, and emcee Mike Klein, afternoon host at Z103.4, got the crowd excited as he announced 10 finalists drawn at random from their submissions to the Great Wedding Giveaway contest. On the table were ten cupcakes provided by Blue Crab Cupcakes, with one containing a plastic wedding ring. Finalists stationed themselves behind the cupcakes and on the count of three dug into them in search of the ring. Winner George Nikas quickly claimed victory and called fianceé Erin McCall to share the good news.

“I am so excited,” Nikas said. “I can’t believe it!”, McCall, on speaker during her break from a 12-hour shift as a nurse, charmed the crowd with her excitement as well. The couple will receive the prize package worth more than $50,000, provided by vendors hoping to make their wedding unforgettable.

The prize package includes services generously provided by local partners, and includes a beach bachelorette weekend from Hyatt Place Dewey Beach; save-the-date cards and invitations by Turnage + Watts, a wedding ceremony and reception for up to 100 at Hyatt Place; as well as a complimentary suite for the couple for their wedding weekend; an arbor and other accessories from Pretty Little Wedding Co.; a rehearsal dinner and welcome reception by Fisherman’s Inn, Fisherman’s Crab Deck, and the Dock House; DJ service from Steve Moody; hair, makeup, and nails for the bride and three additional people; a custom wedding cake from Blue Crab Cupcakes; videography services by Wise Films; photography services by Shelby Louise photography; floral arrangements by Wildly Native Flower Farm; a luncheon for the wedding party form Big Owl Tiki Bar; a fireworks show from Image Engineering; honeymoon suite décor by Woven Dreams by Emily; a chocolate-covered strawberry tray for the night of the wedding from Mary’s Berries; bridesmaid earrings from Kent Island Jewelry and a discount from Brooke & June Bridal.

Also present at the expo were Shelby Louise Photography, Blue Crab Cupcakes, Steve Moody DJ Services, Swan Cove Spa and Salon, Wildly Native Flower Farm, Big Owl’s Tiki Bar, Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, Pretty Little Wedding Co., Image Engineering, Wise Films, Brook & June Bridal, Kent Island Jewelry, Mary’s Berries, and Turnage + Watts.
