GRASONVILLE — Chesapeake Church of Christ, located at 405 Drummer Drive, Grasonville, hosted their annual Vacation Bible School, Saturday morning, June 22. Under the leadership of Pastor Scott Lambert, and the very talented and dedicated congregation, CCC has earned a reputation for its amazing VBS programs. The programs always use the same formula for success with the children; the programs are, animated, and high energy, which the children love. They are also “hands-on” with the children moving from one learning station to the next, with no time to be bored. Over the years, CCC VBS has always been toward the end of June, almost immediately after school ends.

The program themes are always Christ centered, built around essential scriptures from the Bible. This year’s theme was from the New Testament, Book of Matthew, Chapter 7, verses 24-28, about the wise man and the foolish man, and where each built the foundation of their homes. The wise man built his foundation on rock, the foolish man on sand. Rock, representing the stable foundation of Jesus’ eternal truths. Sand, representing the whims of society, as to what is fashionable for the times, ever changing and possibly leading the serious lifetime, lifelong consequences.

“Building Your Life on Jesus” incorporated construction techniques into the theme. The children were exposed to what’s needed to have successful construction; architectural plans (found in the scriptures), planning to use the proper tools, and where to get the proper tools and equipment —”God Depot”. And how to follow prescribed principles to get the job done, spiritually; “love God and love/help others in need, prayer, going to church, fellowshipping with like minded people regularly, obedience to God’s commandments, having faith that things in life will turn out well.”

During the program, there was a moon bounce house to go outside an jump in, as well as crafts of decorating a small house made from gingerbread, and then making a paper house to test the science of building a house, one with a foundation of stone, the other with a foundation of sand. Both paper houses were located near a small lake of water. As waves from the water came ashore, the houses built on sand collapsed and were washed away. The houses with stone foundations remained standing.

In conclusion, the children gathered together to see the wise man, and the foolish man go inside their constructed homes when a simulated storm arrived. Both houses rocked, however, the foolish man’s house collapsed, with its sand foundation washed away. The wise man offered to help the foolish man rebuild, but locating the home on a more sturdy foundation like his own. Members of the wise man’s church also joined in to help the foolish man rebuild. The children gave thanks by coming together with the adult leadership singing songs of praise for all God does good for our lives. A blessing was offered for all the children who participated in this year’s VBS program.

Each child, ages 3-10, were provided with orange and yellow caution vests to simulate proper worksite attired, and also a model safety helmet to be worn at worksites. Following the program, a wonderful free lunch of hot dogs and chips, along with cookies were provided all the children and their parents.

If your child missed this year’s VBS program, mark your calendar for next year, for the end of June, 2025, when CCC will host their next program for children.
