One person was killed and two juveniles hospitalized after a head-on collision in Gray with a drunken driver Saturday, police say.

Jean Nshimiyimana, 43, of South Portland was arrested and charged with manslaughter and operating under the influence.

The crash was reported just before 11:30 p.m. on Portland Road at Sugar Maple Road. Cumberland County Sheriff Chief Deputy Brian Pellerin said Nshimiyimana was driving a 2022 Jeep Gladiator when he crashed into a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the suburban was pronounced dead at the scene. Two juvenile passengers in the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment, Pellerin said.

Police are not releasing the identity of the deceased until the family has been notified, Pellerin said. The cause of death is under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Pellerin said speed and alcohol appear to be involved in the crash.

Nshimiyimana is being held at the Cumberland County Jail and may face additional charges, Pellerin said.
