ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Two people arrested after Greece Police found a dog that had been struck by an arrow Saturday.

Greece Police say they responded to Adeline Park around 10:20 a.m. and found a dog owner who confirmed his golden retriever was shot with an arrow in the torso.

The dog was taken to an urgent care and then taken to an animal hospital in Niagara Falls for surgery.

According to Greece Police, James Smith, age 56, and Linnette Torres, age 45, were allegedly in their yard on Denise Road doing some target practice with a crossbow when one arrow was fired and struck the dog as the owner walked it. Police say they have since recovered the crossbow used.

Smith and Torres were charged with Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, and Torres was also charged with Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree for allegedly injuring the dog.

The investigation is still ongoing. Smith and Torres will be arraigned in Greece Town Court.

Police note that based on the investigation it does not appear that either individual intended to injure the dog, but they acted in a reckless manner.
