Popular ice cream shop coming to Greece

Greece is getting a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. It’s under construction at 824 Long Pond Road and sits next to a plaza that is anchored by Flight West Wine & Whiskey Bar and the Great American Diner.

No opening date has been announced, but the business is accepting job applications.

The owner is Jay Negrin, a 1993 graduate of Greece Athena High School, which isn’t far from the forthcoming shop.

He opened his first Bruster’s in September 2022 at 1930 East Ridge Road in Irondequoit.

At 1,747 square feet, the Greece Bruster’s will be about 300 square feet larger. And in addition to a walk-up window and outdoor seating, it will have a double drive-thru (the Irondequoit location has a single), according to plans submitted to the town. Bruster’s stores do not have indoor seating.

Negrin earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SUNY Oswego and an MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

He lived in Miami, Florida, for 18 years before returning here to be closer to family and open the Irondequoit Bruster’s. He also owned businesses in Miami, including a hair salon with his wife, Katie, but Bruster’s was his first foray into fast food.

Weeks before the East Ridge Road store launched, he told the Democrat and Chronicle he liked the simplicity of the operation — no fryers and no cooking — and that he looked forward to guiding the two dozen or so high school students he expected to hire.

“I like the idea of mentoring some young kids and being part of the community,” he said.

Bruster’s was founded in 1989 in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, and serves ice cream made in-house at nearly 200 locations in 22 states, Guyana and South Korea.

It has about 150 ice cream recipes in its repertoire; typically, 30 are offered at a time.

The only other Bruster's in the Rochester market is at 1041 Ridge Road Webster, and it has a different owner.
