On Saturday, July 10 , the owner of the dog was taking him for a walk when the dog was hit in the torso with an arrow. It was alleged James Smith, 56, and Linnette Torres, 45, were doing target practice in their yard when their crossbow fired and hit the dog. Investigators believe they did not mean to shoot the dog.

Police said the dog was taken to an urgent care and an animal hospital in Niagara Falls. The dog’s owner posted on Facebook confirming that he died on Monday.

Torres and Smith were arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment. Torres faces an additional charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief. It’s not clear if there will be more charges.
