On June 27, members of the Greeley Fire Department were conducting training exercises at the Poudre Ponds in Greeley when a concerned citizen approached them with a request for help. The citizen had found several personal items on the bank of one of the ponds with no owners in sight.

Officers from the Greeley Police Department were called to the scene and were unable to locate the owners of the items, which included a wallet, various articles of clothing, and a cell phone. There was also an unattended truck in the area.

Authorities were ultimately able to use information related to the vehicle to identify its owner, who stated that another family member frequently drove the truck, with that driver last seen with another friend.

At that point, the police department requested assistance from the fire department's dive team. Through the use of sonar, two bodies were located at the bottom of one of the Poudre Ponds. The bodies were recovered on Sunday afternoon.

Additional information was not released related to the official cause of death or the identities of the two deceased people aside from that the bodies were those of a 23-year-old male and a 21-year-old male. It was also noted that there appears to be no foul play, with these deaths likely to be the result of a tragic accident.

Anyone with information that may be related to the case that has not yet spoken with law enforcement on the matter should call 970-350-9605.

Condolences go out to those impacted by these deaths.

The Poudre Ponds are located alongside the Cache la Poudre River in northern Colorado and are a popular spot for recreational fishing.
