(Atlantic) Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts hailing from coast to coast and abroad are traveling across Iowa for RAGBRAI 2024. The trip started in Glenwood on Sunday, spent Sunday night in Red Oak, and headed out on Monday morning through Elliott, Griswold, and Lewis for an overnight stay in Atlantic. Couple Arrested After Staying in Motel Without Paying
A couple was arrested after staying in a motel without paying, according to the Ottumwa Police Department. 30-year-old Mercedes Reisch of Eldon (Left) was charged with 3rd degree theft – 2 prior convictions – property not exceeding $750, possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine – 1st offense, and burglary – 3rd degree – non vehicle.
Asbury Mans Trial Date For 1st Degree Robbery Set
The trial date for an Asbury man charged with first degree robbery in connection with an assault on a 16-year old boy in downtown Dubuque in June is now set. 22-year old Charles Tyler is scheduled to stand trial on September 3rd in Dubuque County District Court. Tyler and a 15-year old boy were arrested following the incident on June 16th when the victim was hospitalized after being punched in the face several times and suffering stab wounds to one of his arms. The boys bicycle was also stolen in the incident.

Jackpot Leads to Semi-Self-Inflicted Arrest
An Ackley man has been arrested after winning a jackpot at the Isle after he placed himself on a banned list, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 43 year old Matthew Wessels enrolled in the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s self-exclusion program in January of 2023. People who self enroll do so in order to combat a gambling addiction. If those people are found in a casino they are to be removed immediately and their winnings are to be forfeited. Wessels visited the Isle on May 17th and won a jackpot. When he was filling out the paperwork to collect the prize he used another man’s name and social security number. That man later found out and alerted authorities. Wessels was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Forgery, Trespassing, and gambling charges. He was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Deliver for an unrelated case where he allegedly hid a bag of meth in a police squad car.
