WPS works to restore power to customers in Oconto County

Following the severe thunderstorms that passed through Oconto County on Tuesday night, workers continue to restore power to those who lost electricity.

Wisconsin Public Service reported it had 197 customers in Oconto County still without power as of 10 p.m. Wednesday

The most affected customers were 52 in an area east of Boulder Lake near Markton.

Across the state, WPS said its crews had yet to restore 178 outages affecting 2,583 customers. It said it expected 95% of customers who were without power Wednesday afternoon to have their power restored by the end of the night, but some in the hardest-hits areas will have to wait until Thursday afternoon.

"WPS crews are finding significant damage – including broken utility poles, downed power lines and trees that have fallen onto electric equipment – as they have worked to restore power to customers," WPS said in a statement.

Overall, WPS said its crews had restored power to about 43,000 customers across the state, and that "all available crews will continue working around the clock to repair the remaining power outages as quickly and safely as possible."

Oconto Electric Cooperative said around 10 p.m. Tuesday that more than 1,100 customers had lost power, mostly in the areas of Krakow, Green Valley, Sampson and Morgan area, but it had restored all outages by 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
