GREEN BAY - A windsurfer on the bay was rescued on late Sunday night after his family reported him missing, according to the Brown County Sheriff's Office and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department .

    According to authorities:

    • The 22-year-old man and his brother went windsurfing at 4 p.m. Sunday at Communiversity Park, 2351 Nicolet Drive.
    • About 7 p.m., friends of both brothers went out on personal watercraft to find the pair. They located one of the brothers.
    • At 8:22 p.m., the man's family reported him missing. This prompted a response from the U.S. Coast Guard, Brown County Marine Unit, state Department of Natural Resources, Green Bay Metro Fire Department Marine and Drone Units, Green Bay Police Marine Unit and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay officers.
    • A Coast Guard helicopter found the 22-year-old man at around 10: 40 p.m. near Point Sable sitting on his windsurfing board and wearing his life jacket.
    • The Brown County Marine Unit was able to respond and rescue the man while recovering his board. No injuries were reported.

The surfers dealt with wind conditions that changed while they were on the bay, which led it being difficult for them to return to shore, the sheriff's office said. It recommends that those going in the water to always let people know where they're going, check the weather, and have emergency communication devices with them.
