Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Holmgren is among a dozen coaching nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Holmgren coached the Green Bay Packers from 1992-98, including during the team's Super Bowl XXXI victory in January 1997 in New Orleans. He coached the Seattle Seahawks from 1999 to 2008. Holmgren was 75-35 coaching the Packers, and had a career record of 161-111.

The hall of fame's Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee cull the 12 remaining nominees to one, which it will do in a series of votes over the next several weeks.

Holmgren is in elite company. The other nominees are Bill Arnsparger , Tom Coughlin , Jeff Fisher , Alex Gibbs, Chuck Knox , Richie Petitbon , Dan Reeves , Marty Schottenheimer , George Seifert , Mike Shanahan and Clark Shaughnessy .

Holmgren was a much sought-after assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers when Packers general manager Ron Wolf hired him to lead the Packers. The team was 9-7 in Holmgren's first year, after being 4-12 the previous season. Holmgren was something of a Favre whisperer, helping to turn raw, inexperienced quarterback Brett Favre into one of the best in the game. Favre is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Holmgren also was general manager of the Seahawks and team president of the Cleveland Browns. He is a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor.

Eleven of Holmgren's assistant coaches became head coaches in the NFL or NCAA, including Andy Reid, now coaching the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and Todd Bowles, head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
