Rusty Wolfe's ode to Packers and Jordan Love, ‘Lombardi Eyes,’ debuts Friday

WAUSAUKEE — Green Bay Packers fans are renowned for their dedication and undying support for their team. As the Jordan Love era unfolds, one of those fans has written a song that embodies what so many fans are feeling — the Pack is Back!

Rusty Wolfe, a nationally known songwriter, musician and visual artist, is a New England transplant who became a Packer believer when he moved to Wausaukee more than a decade ago. He put his talents to work earlier this year, when he wrote “Lombardi Eyes,” as an ode to the Frozen Tundra, its stars and fans, and a nod to its newest star, Jordan Love.

“Lombardi Eyes” will drop Friday on @RustyWolfeArts on YouTube, iTunes and other music platforms. It was recorded at House of David Studio in Nashville.

“I really love this new quarterback, Jordan Love, and I really like Coach Matt LaFleur and the players,” Wolfe said from his art studio in Marinette. “I wanted to write a song about the Packers, and Love — because right now, he’s perfect. The whole team has great potential — they are among the youngest in the NFL — and it’s exciting.”

Wolfe’s songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Glenn Campbell, Loretta Lynn and Lacy J. Dalton. “Lombardi Eyes” is the first song Wolfe has written about an athlete, but the song is as much about the Packer Mystique as it is about Jordan Love.

“I wanted to write about Lambeau, and the Packers, who are the only team owned by the public,” Wolfe said. “I included a legendary coach, offensive and defensive stars, and the Lambeau Leap. When I sat down, the song just wrote itself.”

With its rock ‘n’ roll style and catchy melody, the entire song is uplifting and invigorating, but the chorus says it all:

“Love is the game we play, Love’s gonna take us all the way

Love is on the rise, and he’s got his eye on the prize

Love is the game we play, Love’s gonna take us all the way

Love is Green Bay, he’s got the trophy in his eyes

    Love’s got Lombardi Eyes”
